The U has several locations—including one on the other side of the world. On the outskirts of Seoul, South Korea, the University of Utah Asia Campus recently welcomed its largest class ever with 119 students from around the globe, including nearby Russia and as far away as Brazil. With seven undergraduate and two graduate programs ranging from communications to computer engineering, students get the same educational excellence they would in Utah, with the bonus of an international experience, says Randy McCrillis, the U Asia Campus dean of students.
“Learning doesn’t just take place in a classroom or on a Zoom call—it’s enriched by the connections we make, and the U Asia Campus offers unique opportunities in that regard,” McCrillis says. Students from the Salt Lake campus, even if they’re not from Utah, pay an in-state tuition rate when registered at the U Asia Campus. And a shared room is $1,200 per semester, so students can pursue their degrees during the week and visit sites like the 600-year-old Bukchon Hanok Village (pictured here) for lunch on the weekend.
Being a proud Ute alumni and someone living here in beautiful South Korea, we have visited this campus and it is impressive. What an opportunity for students to live abroad in this amazing country with so much to do and see. There is something for every interest. South Korea is a fun mix of both modern and historical. The Korean people are respectful, honorable, fun, and kind and we feel very safe here. Attending school at the U of U Asia Campus is a fantastic opportunity and I recommend checking it out!
