University of Utah Health is planting a health care flag in one of the state’s fastest-growing corridors. In a ceremonial signing, U of U Health, the State of Utah, and the Point of the Mountain State Land Authority formalized an agreement securing 46 acres for a proposed health campus at The Point—a 600-acre master-planned community rising near the Salt Lake–Utah County line.
The deal makes U of U Health the health care anchor for the development and lays the groundwork for a future campus that could include both inpatient and outpatient care. The aim is to close a geographic gap. Residents across the booming south valley—Draper, Lehi, Saratoga Springs, and beyond—now drive long distances for specialized care.
“As Utah grows, the University of Utah must grow with it,” says U President Taylor Randall HBA’90. Bob Carter, CEO of U of U Health, framed the purchase as a foundation rather than a finished plan: “This land purchase is an exciting milestone because it gives us the foundational footprint to bring comprehensive, nationally ranked care closer to people where they already live and work.” He added that the project doesn’t diminish U of U Health’s existing commitments with the Eccles Health Campus and Eccles Hospital in West Valley and Huntsman Cancer Institute in Vineyard.
Planning is in its earliest stages, with campus size and services still to be shaped over the next several years. Once running, U of U Health expects to employ roughly 2,500 people at the site.
